Damn you Mari

Wow. I made a pact after Steelhead to start incorporating some core work etc. I have been a major slacker when it comes to anything but swim, bike, run. Well tonight after my 6 mile easy run with JT downtown and some dinner I headed to the basement and popped in my Winsor Pilates Ab sculpting DVD. Man 15 minutes never hurt so good. I thought my core was getting stronger from using a stability ball for my desk chair at work but apparently there is still a lot of room for improvement.

My next mission, flexibility. Not only did the workout kill my abs, my freaking legs were so tight from tonights easy run I could barely keep the correct positions. Freaking Mari Winsor. So next match with the Winsor Pilates I need to incorporate a 5-10 minute stretch session first, perhaps I will start doing the Runner's World reccomended yoga routine for runners again. I was doing so well with the stretching right after Boston. What happened? Laziness that's what!

I was JUST thinking today of how I've been SLACKING in this department!!! I think tomorrow Rodney Yee and I will spend some quality time in my basement doing yoga. :)

Uh huh, that's me. I'd rather run 20 miles than do core work!! Thanks for sharing that. I dunno about Pilates, but a strong core will pay dividends for Chicago and JFK. I hope to do the same.

Alright there, Elizabeth. Calling yourself lazy is like calling a Penguin, well, fast! I'm sure you need to loosen up a bit after all the great activity you've had the past couple of weeks.

"...using a stability ball for my desk chair at work..."

I've actually thought about doing that but I can't make myself actually go through with it.

Did you see The Office episode where Dwight is sitting on one until a co-worker stabs it with scissors?

Not laziness, just one more thing to do to stay "fit." But you will see some improvement overall with your running with more flexibility and stronger core.

LOL Zeke I did not see that episode. When I first brought in the ball my coworkers thought I was nuts, and S kicked it a few times while I was sitting in it, but no topples yet, and now my boss is using one to help his back!

Um... Stability ball at work... I have to agree with Zeke.. I've thought about it... seriously thought about it, but I doubt I would be able to get through one day without getting sooooo much crap that I would have to take it home and STILL wouldn't live it down till someone did something stupid like Yelling "HEY YOU GUYS" while doing the Truffle Shuffle. So anyway... E! you have a golf outting? and you don't invite me? What's that?!?!?! and you call yourself a friend.! Jerk!

Steve said...

No seriously we should do a CTC Golf outting! AND you should invite me to yours! Don't forget that last one... cuz I mean it's not like I NEEEEEEEEEED to play or something.. just yeah so don't forget to invite me to that one also..... ; - }

The Espeed definition of laziness: training for a HIM! You are crazy :)

I need to start doing some core body work as well. I am planning to do a lot of strength training in the off-season. Great way to avoid injury I hear!

Are you going to become also a culturist?

I want to do the stability ball at work too, but am afraid of the taunting. I get enough crap as it is because I "exercise"...

I right there with you on the need to get more flexible. I get a good run of days where I find the time/make myself do it, then the next thing I know, it's two weeks later and I'm back to square one.

Don't blame it on laziness - maybe it's just summer. It sounds like you've been busy with the bike/run/swim - when seasons change it seems like it's easier to change your routine and do some more strength and flexibility. Summer gets so busy also, that it's hard to fit in more than your 3 basics.

I have been using my ball at work for the past 8 months and have no problems with co-workers sneering and jeering. They are rather interested in the effects of using the ball. I think 2 or 3 people have been converted after I show and tell them all the fun I have on my ball. And remember the best workout is "dumbbells on the ball". I think I should register that name. I like it.

I need to do a lot more of both -- core and stretching. I bought that yoga DVD months ago and still have yet to do anything. I'm a slacker though ... so great work E!

Yep, Pilates can kick your butt. Looks easy, but can be way hard. I'd like to try some yoga too...

Power Yoga is pretty cool stuff also and all the core work will make you look like Jessi Stensland. With those many marathons this year, your definelty not a slacker.

That pilates and yoga stuff is HARD!!! The last time I tried it, I felt worse than a pretzel afterwards.

Thanks for the tip. I like my pilates class, but I do feel like I need to STRETCH. I am so bad at this, and I have paid for it. I nmeed to bump up my stretching and flexibility. Where can I find the RW yoga routine for runners? Maybe I can get my stretching in with this -- if the yoga is very basic and more along the lines of a good stretch....
