Something to think about

I am cleaning out some old random boxes and found one full of stuff I had on my walls in high school. Lots of cut outs from magazines, old poems, notes, etc.

Found this quote most likely cut out from an Adidas or Nike add in a copy of Runners World:

"Don't ask me to be faithful to only one treadmill, only one class, only one free weight.
I will flex and sweat and work out according to my goals, and how I feel now, this instant.
Not according to what day of the week it is."

It's funny how many of these things I have cut out. I haven't really paid attention to ads in Runners World lately. I wonder if the advertisers still have so many of these perfect little phrases that I used to use to define me by displaying them on my walls.

I still hold the mantra "impossible is nothing" by adidas. So many cool thoughts to be found in so little words. Eventhough they are just trying to sell us something.

what we really want to know is what hunky stud muffin you had on your walls. if i want to do a glute workout, i just think about what was on my walls and my ass works button holes out of embarrassment. cliiiiinch!

Some of the best slogans are from sporting advertisements. Ditto, Bubba, the Adidas slogan is one the best.

Stay tuned...

Very cool to run across. I used to love the Asics one when I was in high school. Don't just do it, do it right! I had a sweatshirt with that on it and would wear it in the winter when running hill repeats.

I love the ads in Runners World. In fact, there were some I wish I had cut out now that I start to think about it.

Great memories.

Sports quotes of wisdom are parallel to life itself. To us they mean so much more than those that are not involved in sports.

I started hunting for running slogans and ads and forgot to come back to comment ... then when I came back, I forgot what I was going to say ... however, i have been thinking about the "no limits" slogan of late and I am not sure I agree

I don't look at that magazine much since it has gone all girly-girly. There is that one with the dinosaur chasing the distance runner, though. A favorite and very cool, except the runner would probably get chomped up right quick!

Some of the old slogans weren't that inspiriational, though.

Remember Nike's old (early 90s) slogan, "there is no finish line?"
I think that one sucked, especially if you were running an ultramarathon!

These are some that I think are more appropriate for an ultra:
"Ultrarunning is 90% mental, and the other half is physical."
"It always never gets worse."
"Relentless forward motion."

I wonder how those slogans are derived?

I used to do the same thing at my office -- putting up old running shoe ads with inspirational saying. My favorite, though, is a napkin from a barfly who I ran into using the place's restroom during a nighttime 5-miler.

James Joyce:

"Rapid motion through space elates one."

I've kept all my old fav slogans in a small keepsake book. It's great fun to look back upon and remember where my head was at at the time I needed the quote.
