Who Turned on the Heat?

Last long run before Boston is in the bag. Went to the park and got in about 17.5. It got seriously warm by the end of the run. I am not ready for 60 degrees. Can't we ease in with a few weeks of 45-50? Pretty please?

Anywho dad rode his bike with me again and because of my bitching about my form we decided we needed some video of me running. Added bonus you get to see my wild Martian shirt in action. A cyclist must have designed this thing.

So bring on the analysis. I actually don't think it looks too bad in these videos. I must start deteriorating as I get faster and tired. These are about 10 miles into the run today.

After Boston I think I definitely want to key in on a few of my weaknesses. Primarily posture, I start to hunch and lean forward as I tire, and also I want to stop bouncing up and down so much and use that energy to move forward :) We'll see if I can make any improvements this summer.

I think your form is fine... one thing I have never been able to do is to carry fluids with me; it's just too awkward for me.

BTW, congrats on your last 10K. You raced it well.

How awesome that your dad tags long with you to help with your training. Posture is a new focus of mine, too and I find that my runs ARE stronger and faster when everything is in line. Good luck with fine tuning your form!

Try increasing your leg turnover so that your stride shortens slightly and you don't land on your heels (i.e. try land with your leg under your trunk as opposed to in front of it as it tends to have a braking effect) leaning slightly forward from your ankles ("falling forward") may help this also.

BTW you are in top form for Boston. Best of luck.

couldn't tell who that was running it was too fast. my suggestion: start eating more and working out less. big people have a good running style.

Your upper body looks relaxed which is good form.

I don't have much to add, but I can confirm that you tend to hunch and lean forward at times. I do the same, especially when very tired and going uphill. When this is happening, I find that I am looking slightly downward. To fix it, I simply look straight ahead, even slightly upward. My head then follows my eyes, my chin comes up, my shoulders lift, and my back straightens. Everything realigns, lead by my eyes.

Have you tried Pilates? I think you look great, but maybe it would help to visualize a string coming out of the top of your head. My posture is awful, but Pilates has helped me a little bit...makes me more aware of how I'm holding my body.
