2 out of 3...

isn't so bad right?

I managed to wake up earlier two mornings in a row but this morning was a bust. I got up, walked across the room to turn off my husbands alarm, and then I marched over to my alarm and reset it for 40 minutes later.

For reference my alarm is on our dresser which is about 3-5 feet from the bed. I think I woke up to my alarm 4 or 5 times, got out of bed and turned it off and went back to sleep 4 or 5 times. I'm crafty like that! I even took out my ear plugs thinking that the noise of the humidifier would draw me from my sleep, but it was a no go.

Oh well! On my run tonight I was a bit drained so a double with a swim this morning probably wouldn't have been too bright anyways!

I am going to attempt for the early start again tomorrow though to get into the pool, wish me luck!

Onto other business.

I have had all my Christmas cards written and ready to go since last week. I, at the time, wasn't waking up early, so I thought to myself let's order our stamps online this year to save a trip to the post office. I ordered them Thursday. Are they here yet? NOPE! Uggh. And to top that off I had to go to the post office this morning anyways to drop off our cards going to foreign countries but couldn't buy the stamps there because they already charged my card for the stamps I ordered online :( I do have one thing going for me though, our cards this year are totally non religious so it is okay even if they arrive after Christmas.

We do have all our presents wrapped and the decorations are up so that is good. Of course all of the gifts are hidden in the guest bedroom because my cats have a ribbon and tissue paper fetish.

I have been looking over training programs for the 5k and I think I may be in serious trouble. The First program looks rough. I am not sure if you are supposed to base it on your current 5K time or your desired time but either way the paces are FAST. Much faster than the 11 minute miles I am now accustomed to after running 50 miles at that pace. I think I can handle the shorter stuff fast but some of the tempo runs look wicked. 2 miles at something like 6:46-7:08 pace, Yikes! Basically the 400 pace would be something like 5:46-6:08 and long tempo paces would be from 7:16-7:38 pace I distinctively remember seeing mile repeats at 6:11 pace and almost fainting. I'll have to look tomorrow at the time frame etc. Chili Bowl in February may have to just be a warm up for the real PR test if I can't get my speed up fast enough this winter. Right now I am kind of enjoying running just for the sake of running at any pace I desire.

you'll be super fast again before you know it...you're e-speed, afterall!

Why do I find it ironic that the post office takes a long time to deliver stamps? I mean it is not like they can be returned for insufficient postage...

E-speed, if anyone can achieve those speeds, it is you. Good luck!

I didn't get to bed until 11 last night, so I was glad that Sam J. was meeting me or I might have skipped my swim.

Thanks again for leading my group! Hope it went well!

you have your presents wrapped already???? i haven't even gone shopping yet. i've still got plenty of time.
looking at those paces this time of year makes me tired. i'm in slow mode and not even thinking about going fast.

I agree about the speed thing, you will get it back faster than you think as long as you do some fast training. I really think it takes 2-3 months to recover from high, slow mileage. First it is physical, then it is mental. Once you get fully recovered, your mind will say let's go!

Chili Bowl would be a tough PR. Maybe shoot for something in May/June. I'd love to help pace you!!

You too funny. You should see us, with our 3 alarms and constantly snoozing! You will wake up early Sunday to go swimming with me right? No migraines. Promise. Going to take aleve the night before.

Can't even start to comment about running that fast. Geesh.

I am in the "enjoying running just for the sake of running at any pace" phase too. It can't last forever but I am going to drag it on as long as I can.

Wow, E, get ready to really live up to your blogger name! Long run pace at 7:30ish. Holy moly! If anyone can do it, you can. You are joining the VTC challenge, right? We need your numbers to beat those men!

I still can't figure out that alarm thing. How to get up for it. Just get back into it slowly. There is something to just run for fun again and enjoy the surrondings.

I have to get up when I hear my alarm, cause my wife never hears it (or ignores it). Your speed will return, be patient!

Christmas cards, is it that time already, I knew I needed to do something, ugh!

I trained using the Furman program and really liked it. It was tough though. It will definitely make you faster....not that you aren't speedy already! Mt Buckeye

Personally, I kinda go into hibernation mode when things get colder... Even if I don't feel tired at night, I NEVER want to get up in the morning. I don't fault you in any way for sleeping late. I say embrace it!

And by the way, I LOVED your card. It was like a winter solstice greeting. Beautiful. Kind of card I'd be sending out if I did holiday cards. Guess I probably should by this age...

I hate to get up early, luckily I work near my house so I don't need to use the alarm.
To write the Xmas card is as hard as a marathon, isn't it?

Two out of three is rock star in my book. Especially since I'm a habitual 0 for 3 sort of fellow myself. And if I must say so myself, I have faith you'll definitely PR at the Chili Bowl. I know it!
