Note to self

When one wakes up at 5 am after 4 hours of sleep and heads out the door at 5:15 to view lightning on the horizon, don't go back upstairs and grab alternate workout clothes, just in case you will be lifting weights instead of swimming, and don't get in your truck and head to North Royalton for the group swim. Go back to bed. No one else will show up and you will waste gas going down there, you will not have a nice relaxing shower at home, but a locker room shower, you will sit by yourself reading a magazine while the staff look at you funny, and you won't get in the workout you got up for in the first place.

On a good note: You will get to work at 7am so you get to leave at 3!

A bit of a rant

Okay so this won't be quite as cheery as my usual posts so if you are looking for a pick me up go read Get Fuzzy and stop back here again tomorrow :)

I rode my bike out in Rocky River Reservation tonight. I got there around 7:30 and rode until 8:45pm. Got in about 21 miles. Part of the valley parkway is under construction so I had a few more hills than I planned on and had to do some riding on the real roads (not the parkway). Which while not as safe is totally my right as a cyclist.

As a cyclist I am considered a vehicle and should adhere to all traffic laws that a regular car shall abide. You can check out some of the details about Ohio's cycling laws here: http://crankmail.com/fredoswald/Bicycle-Law-Digest.html

I am pretty sure that while this site says sidewalk riding is allowed that it isn't allowed in a lot of local laws. For some reason the "if you are over 12 and riding your bike you should be on the road" rule seems to stick out in my head.

For those that aren't accustomed to Elizabeth's "foul" side please stop reading now and come back when I am a bit cheerier.

Anyways, every time I have ridden in Rocky River Reservation I have had some a$$hole driver yell at me to "get off the road", or to "get on the path." Tonight of course was no exception. Only tonight not only did I get yelled at by some jerk off driver, I also got yelled at by some hicks kids in the back seat. What freak teaches their kids to yell at cyclists on the road. By the way in all the reservations I have seen there are signs telling motorist to "share the road" with cyclists oh about every couple miles. What is interesting is that everytime I have been harassed it was at the same intersection. So next time I go there I will have to look and see if there are no signs in that vicinity.

Do these people not realize that I am riding anywhere from 15-20+ miles per hour. Going that fast on the all purpose path would get me killed. Either by a dog, runner, roller-blader, or recreational cyclist. GRRRR.

Luckily cycling boosts my endorphin levels so I generally get over the affront really quickly during the ride, and I am actually not all that upset about it now but I was when it occurred tonight and I wanted to vent about it here. So if any of you non-cyclists reading this have ever yelled at a cyclist, don't do it anymore!!! We have every right to be the road with you, and frankly we are not an inconvenience at all if we are both following traffic laws.

Way to go Tribe!

This morning I got in a quick bike ride before heading to work. 10.4 miles in 41 minutes. A little slower than last Wednesday, but I think I was pushing the tempo last Wednesday, although I should be faster now with my slick aerobars ;) I rubber banded the computer to the end of the bars temporarily and it worked so I was able to track the distance and speed.

My hubby picked me up an air filter today at drug mart for $4.99!!! My check engine light came on Monday night and I am hoping it is because I need to replace the air filter, and nothing worse. We will see after I put that in tomorrow.

Tonight was our "annual" Tetra Tech summer party. Since we don't get to attend Fairfax's big party we decided to go to an Indian's game. We played the Yankees tonight. It got off to a slow start but we ended up having an awesome 5th inning and won it 7 to 4!!! It was a long game, stinking Yankees pitchers were stalling like nobody's business, I guess that is what happens when you have to pull your starter in the 5th.

I ate like a pig tonight! 1 and a half beers, a cotton candy cone, ice cream in a helmet (cookie dough and mint chocolate chip!), a piece of pretzel, and some really great bbq chicken thin slice pizza at the chophouse.

I just found out today (I am a little slow on the uptake) that Gund Arena will now be known as "The Q." How freaking lame!!! Why do they have to rename every stadium after a corporation. It is really quite silly and unoriginal.

Slider ready to catch the first pitch

Cool Action shot

I think that is CoCo out there. He is my current fave Indians player.

The last of my cotton candy, it was so humid it got sticky just sitting on the stick

Our "wave" leader, we couldn't get a very long wave going, too many Yankees fans beside us

Game attendance

Gund Arena, no more....apparently they are changing the name to Quicken Loans Arena...what a stupid idea!

This is what happens when your taking photos while walking :) I actually think it looks cool.

I Don't think I have ever posted one of these but I found this result interesting.

Track and Transitions Workshop

Last night was the Chicago Tri teams transition workshop. We had the workshop at Coach K's. 4 of the participants showed up. The team is dwindling. The official tally now is 7 I think :
While they were practicing their transitions Bryce helped me put his old aerobars onto my bike. We will see how that goes. I had to ditch my computer for the time being until I get something to hook it up to the aerobars. But supposedly this is going to help me be faster on the flats. But I guess it isn't an exact science, I need to find a position that is aerodynamic but also doesn't require too much more power from my quads and rear! So I am going to try and wake up early tomorrow to get in a test ride. It is kind of hilly around here but there are a few stretches where I can feel out how the positioning is.

Tonight was the track workout as usual. It was extremely hot tonight and I wimped out a little bit. I just tried to keep everything even pace right around 6:40/mile. And I didn't do the full "A" workout which is always 3 miles of intervals.

Here is a rundown of what I did manage to do.

1 and 3/4 mile warm up
3*400 with 200 jog in between- 1:38, 1:34.80, 1:36.89
2* 800 with 400 jog- 3:17.09, 3:17.15
2*400 with 200 jog- 1:35.92, 1:35.40
200 hard- 35.46
1 mile cool down

Total mileage around 6

Afterwards I had a good meal at Hoggy's! And as a treat I got a hot fudge brownie sundae, it was delicious!!!

Draining the lactic acid!
