I have not run formally since Sunday. Decided it was about time I gave myself a break. Only workouts this week have been a 1400 meter swim and an hour of sore bodies class (and boy is my body sore!) I am glad I took the time off to recover but I am so ready to run again. Even if it is just a slog. My butt has been dragging by 4 PM every day this week. It is obvious that working out each day keeps my energy high and makes me a more productive person!
I asked for the Pfitzinger book for Christmas so hopefully by Tuesday I will come up with a plan for the year! So far it is looking like a lot of long events again. I've been asked to pace the 4 hour group in Tampa in February. I'm signed up for Winter Buckeye 50k and Boston, and I plan on racing Cinci again. I've got a half iron on tap in the fall, and I'm even thinking of travelling in December next year for a more arid 50 miler! No real rest for the crazy :)
Hope everyone has a great weekend! I know I will. Lots of family time and I will even squeeze in a trail run tomorrow morning!

If you're going...
So I let the cat slip out of the bag on Michelle's blog. I figure I better post the good news now before you do the detective work to find it out yourselves.
My ultra running pal rootsrunner recommended that I be a marathon pacer this year for the group that he has paced with for the past few years (and was Rookie pacer of the year for his first year with them). I got an email from the man in charge asking for some various information about myself a few months back and was told that I could possibly be pacing the Detroit marathon on October 21st.
So when I got an email last week asking if I had the 21st open I replied that I did as I was expecting to pace for him. He calls and we chat and he brings up the fact that my two most recent good marathon times were at Pig and Boston and that my ultras and trail hill experience will come in handy. In my mind I am thinking "Detroit doesn't have hills". But I assured him that I can definitely handle any hills thrown at me while pacing.
He then informs me they want me to be the 3:50 pacer at this years Nike Women's Marathon in San Fransisco! I cannot even begin to explain how excited I am. I will be all decked out in Nike Gear and will even get to try out their Nike+ software. Oh and did I mention I am going to San Fransisco! My last trip there was my senior year of college and I only got to see China town so I am really looking forward to seeing more of the city. Hopefully my expo duties will allow for some sightseeing time.
I'm nervous as it will be my first official pacing experience. Rootsrunner has already informed me I have to be rookie of the year, no pressure! But I am confident I can run a 3:50 pace comfortably even with the hills on the course. I'll be trying to do all my long runs that aren't trail at this pace so I get it engraved in my leg muscle memory. This also means I am going to bale on racing Towpath and going for 3:25. I don't want to risk not being recovered in time for my pacing duties (2 weeks later).
But! I am going to San Fransisco and it looks like this will be an awesome experience for me. Can't wait to get my Tiffany's necklace at the finish line! Hopefully I'll see some fun bloggers there and maybe I'll even get the honor of being your pacer!

Falling Off the Wagon
Working late really blows. Especially when it cuts into your running! Just finished up here about an hour and a half later than planned and I am starving and don't feel like running at all. Normally this wouldn't be a problem but this happened last night too. So now it's 2 days in a row when I won't run and oh yeah I am supposed to be aiming for 53 miles this week. Uggh. So I guess I will have to settle for two back off weeks in a row. Next week will be tough to hit all the miles with Burning River. I'm manning an overnight aid station so weekend running may be in short supply. I guess this is why I had a quick build up plan and a slow one, in case of unforeseen occurrences!
So what is my master plan you ask? Don't really have one right now other than upping mileage. I have been running a track workout once a week and the rest of my miles have been either long runs or easy runs with as much on trails as I can get in. I am kind of enjoying the lack of a formal plan where I just throw up a bunch of numbers to hit my weekly mileage.
Tuesday's track workout went well. 3 sets of 4*400 all at 1:31 or under. I was happy with it and got in 8 miles to boot.
Races on tap are:
Thursday the 2nd Twilight Trail 8K. Pairing up with Solar Squirrel as a team, MT and Daisy are doing it too. Should be fun!
August 7th XC 5K first try for sub 20
August 14th XC 5K Second attempt for sub 20
August 21st XC 5K third attempt for sub 20
All those races are $3, you can't beat that!
I think I'm bagging any tri's this year which means Great Lakes Escape is most likely out . I haven't swam at all and my cycling is nonexistent except for the occasional commute into work. We'll see, this is tentative but if I do it I will only race the run portion.
After that it's North Country Trail Marathon in September with Solar Squirrel and possibly Mouse and Dice. I'm tempted to do 50 there but will contain myself and just do 26.
In October I'm hoping to run the Akron marathon as a relay again, this time as a kick ass female team.
After that there's the possibility of pacing Detroit Marathon and racing Towpath Marathon.
Then it's back to Maryland for another go at 50 miles at JFK. MT, GK, and I are signed up and I reserved the hotel.
In other words there's really no time for this missing two runs in a row nonsense. Let's hope next weeks better!

Event Horizon
"A spatial boundary around a black hole inside which gravity is strong enough to prevent all matter and radiation from escaping."
I was listening to "Says You!" this morning on my way home from my rainy long run and one of the questions was to define Event Horizon. In laymens terms it was the point/time at which matter can no longer escape a black hole.
After a huge year of racing mileage last year I swore to myself that I would back it off this year. Focus on one fast marathon and a few 5ks. Hah. I think I may have been sucked in.
I've already got one 5k, two 5 milers, two half marathons, 2 marathons, and a 50K under my 2007 belt.
On tap we've got the Great Midwest Relay next weekend, my anchor legs will tally 19.6 miles.
Next after that a 5k as promised on Flag Day.
Then Buckeye 50k in July. Followed the next week by a 4 mile night race.
After that it's the North Country Trail Marathon in September.
Edit you can add another trail marathon in September to the mix now after NCTM (Solar Squirrel has a date conflict with NCTM, but I am already signed up so I will be heading north by myself, unless Mouse can make it!)
Then towpath or Columbus Marathon in October, I owe a friend a BQ paced race so I may be running with her here, but would like to chase after the 3:25.
Next is most likely the Detroit Marathon pacing around 4 hours. Then if I don't race towpath likely an attempt at 3:25 at Richmond.
All of this while I am trying to up my weekly mileage.
I have two plans to get up to consistently running 50-60 miles a week. (Currently I average 30 but have some cross training mileage to back it up) One gets me there in a few months, the other by December. I am going to see how my body responds to the quicker (but still gradual) increase and if I get worn out or tired I will go with the back up plan that includes more back off weeks. Both plans stick to the 10% rule.
So that's what's on the horizon. It 's going to be an interesting year! Hopefully lots of trail running, lots of mileage. And hopefully I will be able to throw in a few tri's too on the way.
